Newsletters for the Declaration of Common Ground

The "Common Declaration Newsletter" is an e-mail update sent out to parties interested in the project described in " Abortion: Have We Done Our Homework?".

(Technical Note: I use the "Blind C.C." feature of Microsoft Outlook to hide the e-mail addresses in the Newsletter's "TO" list, in order to help protect the privacy of recipients.)

Things Done:

1) Sent some e-mails to pro-choice groups:

CARAL; Canadian Abortion Rights Action League (www.caral.ca)

IPPF; International Planned Parenthood Federation (www.ippf.org)

NARAL (www.naral.org)

20-July-2004

Things To Do:

==========

1) Send a dozen or so e-mails to the "other side" (pro-choice groups), to ask for their initial feedback and get a few contacts.

2) Physically visit the local offices of the major federal political parties, to ask for their feedback, and see if they would support such a project.

3) Continue discussions with "our side", to get some sort of tentative approval of a list of statements that we consider OK, and that the "other side" might consider OK too.

Things Done:

=========

1) Sent about 20 e-mails to pro-life associations asking for their opinion. Got 4 positive replies (which I consider good, given the circumstances):

Canadian Physicians for Life (physiciansforlife.ca)

Catholics Against Contraception (catholicsagainstcontraception.com)

Focus on the Family (www.family.org)

Life Canada (www.lifecanada.org)

LifeSite (www.lifesite.net)

National Campus Life Network (www.ncln.ca)

Pharmacists for Life Canada (www.geocities.com/pflic/news.html)

Priests For Life (www.priest.com)

Pro-Vie Montréal Pro-Life (www.mtlprolife.org)

REAL Women (www.realwomenca.com)

2) Sent e-mails to all major federal political parties (Liberal, Conservatives, Bloc, NDP). No replies yet.

3) Sent snail-mail to local Catholic Bishop to see if he would support this project. No reply yet.

4) Wrote the FAQ for the Common Ground Declaration, as well as a first shot at a method to proceed with the search for common ground (Concedo, Nego, Distinguo).
