Subject: Retired Marine gets threats after guarding Canadian war memorial

Good day Sir,

I just came back from the Remembrance Day ceremony here in
Quebec City, and I read that on the eleventh hour of the
eleventh day of the eleventh month, we should: "find a vet
and thank him or her. It's the very least we can do."
[Source]

So please accept my thanks, since I cannot send an e-mail
to all the brave people who have paid the ultimate price,
so that we could enjoy liberty in this country.

I also wanted to thank you for what you did at the Canadian
War Memorial here in Ottawa, a few days ago. For those
who will read this web page many years from now, here is
an explanation by Mr. Jeff Schogol:

Sinke is a decorated veteran who did tours in Vietnam and
received five Purple Hearts. When Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, a
Canadian service member, was shot and killed last month while
guarding Canada's war memorial, Sinke felt obligated to honor
	the fallen hero.

"The murder of the young Cpl. Cirillo was so despicable and
craven that I just couldn't find it within myself to do
nothing," said Sinke, a dual Canadian-American citizen.

So Sinke, who lives in Canada, donned his Marine uniform and
sword and went to the memorial to stand guard on Friday. He told
local media that he came to pay tribute to fallen comrade in
arms and he wanted to show that Canadians will not be
	intimidated.

He also had a message for would-be terrorists: "I said, «Hey,
you're looking for a target, here's a new one for you; give it
your best shot; we'll see how it works out for you.»"

What you did in Ottawa is especially worthy of praise, when compared
to what the Canadian Army ordered its soldiers to do, a few
hours after the terrorist attack. They told their soldiers to
avoid being seen in public in uniform, and to dress like
civilians when off base. Somehow, I doubt that encouraging our
soldiers to dress up like women and children will do much to
deter other terrorists.

If I were the Prime Minister of Canada, I would:

	- Send you a nice "thank you" note for what you did.
Actually, I'd invite you over for a State dinner, and
	heap another medal on you!

	- Change the laws so members of the military could
carry loaded firearms, especially when in uniform, and
especially while guarding something important (I still
remember the unarmed guards at the 1983 Beirut barracks
bombing, where I might have been if I hadn't allowed
my parents to talk me out of joining the USMC when I was
	18 years old).

Ah well, no hope of that happening... At least, allow me
to thank you publicly.

Sincerely,

Stefan Jetchick

Hey Stefan,

Like many others, you heap far more praise on me than I deserve.
Do as you wish with the web page -- and thank you sir!

Ever Faithful,
R. E. G. Sinke, Jr.
